Eye Exercises  ⁄  13. 14. Divergent Fusional Reserve 3°. 4-pointed Route-2

Eye exercises 13 and 14 are ones of the eye exercises from the intermediate-1 course. These eye exercises help us to achieve the divergent fusional reserve 3 degrees.

In video there are two colored rings. The green ring indicates the left eye and the yellow ring indicates the right eye. Zero degree angle is set between the visual axes at the beginning. During the exercise the distance between the colored dots will be increasing. The angle between the visual axes will reach 3 degrees on the top.

Exercise 14 is almost the same as 13. The difference between these exercises is in the “stairs effect” in the central column, which appears because the distances between the stars are already preset.

At the beginning of the exercise the distance between two red dots is the same as pupillary distance. So the visual axes are parallel and the angle between them is zero degree. When the colored dots go up, the distance between them ones slowly increases. The same happens to the angle between visual axes. On the top the angle between visual axes reaches to 3 degrees. When the colored dots go down, the distance  slowly decreases. The angle between visual axes goes down to zero degree i.e. parallel viewing.

Near 3 degrees’ divergence I start feeling tension of eye-muscles in temples areas. It is a natural feeling. The reason is the work of my external eye-muscles. The further I go during the exercise the harder grows the tension.

Rigish, you should practice eye exercises every day at least 30 minutes a day. At first the 1st exercise, then the 2nd, the 3rd and so on.

Dr. Do you have a recommended exercise for strengthening the superior oblique muscle? My right eye has a tilt to it where it seems it is tilted down left from the horizontal position.

    Hello Doc,

Any updates on your rotary eye exercises to help with weak superior oblique? I have similar symptom as Gene (31-5-2016 above) wherein my right eye has a downward tilt on leftmost & upward gaze. Right eye also has slight hypertropia.

    Thank you.
